Anyone who has to cut open and core an apple for the first time often wonders how best to proceed in order to complete the act quickly. We will show you how to remove the core from the delicious and particularly healthy fruit with little effort and really only remove the core - meaning none of the edible parts. This is the true art of apple coring.

It is possible to core the apple without cutting it open

Core the apple - these options are there

The following variants are available for coring an apple:

  • with a knife
  • with an apple corer

The basic rule is: first wash the apple thoroughly with warm water and dry it carefully.

Core the apple with a knife

  1. Place the apple, stem side up, on a sturdy cutting board.
  2. Using a short, thin, and sharp knife, insert it directly into the top of the apple - about an inch from the center. This is how you place it in the core case.
  3. Push the blade all the way into the apple - until it hits the cutting board.
  4. Now carefully pull out the knife.
  5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 three more times - around the core of the apple.
  6. So you now have four cuts around the core of the apple, making a square.
  7. Trace the cuts again with the knife, dragging the latter from one incision to the next.
  8. Take out the knife.
  9. Push the core out of the apple with your thumb.

tips

Alternatively, you can first halve or quarter the apple with a sharp knife and scrape out the core with a teaspoon or melon spoon.

Core the apple with an apple corer

  1. Place the apple, stem side up, on a sturdy cutting board.
  2. Take an apple corer and press it down the center of the apple.
  3. Twist the corer to remove the core of the apple.
  4. Pull the device out of the apple and, if necessary, help manually to remove the pithy parts.

Note: Whichever variant you use, do not forget to always remove the stem and blossom from the apple before processing the fruit.
