The emerald thuja is the most popular variety of the tree of life. It is preferably grown as a solitaire in the garden or in a tub. It is less suitable for the hedge because it does not like to be too dense. When fertilizing the Smaragd-Thuja, a sure instinct is required.

After fertilizing, the Smaragdthuja is well watered

Do not fertilize Smaragd Thuja too much

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when caring for Emerald Thuja is over-fertilizing the Emerald Arborvitae. Too many nutrients given by mineral fertilizers can burn the roots. The tree of life can then often no longer be saved.

In the first year after planting, additional fertilizer is usually not required. With good soil preparation, the tree of life is well cared for.

Only in the following years does the Smaragd Thuja need light fertilizer. Follow the instructions on the package exactly and reduce the dose a little.

Suitable fertilizers for the emerald tree of life

  • conifer fertilizer
  • Thuja Fertilizer
  • compost
  • Damn
  • horn shavings

Whenever possible, you should switch to organic fertilizers such as compost, manure and horn shavings (32.93€) to fertilize Thuja Smaragd. You can't go wrong with this, because over-fertilization is practically impossible.

The organic material is applied in the spring and gently raked into the soil.

Conifer fertilizer is mostly long-term fertilizer and is also given in spring. After fertilizing, the tree of life must be watered well.

create a mulch layer

A layer of mulch that you spread under the tree offers the best supply of nutrients. You can use lawn clippings (without seeds), healthy leaves, chopped shrub clippings or bark mulch for this.

The mulch layer is renewed every spring. The materials decompose and release nutrients in doses. The cover also keeps weeds away and ensures constant soil moisture.

Fertilize Emerald Thuja in the bucket

In the bucket, the emerald thuja does not have as many nutrients available as outdoors. You should therefore regularly supply the tree of life with special conifer fertilizer for potted plants.

It is also good to replace part of the soil in spring if you are not going to transplant the thuja anyway.

tips

Smaragd thuja is more sensitive than other thuja varieties such as Brabant. But she has a beautiful emerald green color and a very elegant growth habit.
