You shouldn't just plant a tree in the garden: To ensure that it grows well and thrives, many factors must be taken into account beforehand. One is the optimal planting time, which varies by tree type and region.

How to find the right time of year
In general, spring and autumn are the best times of year to plant a tree. The only requirement is that the ground is frost-free.
root system
Trees are commercially available with three different root types, all of which have an impact on planting time.
- Bare-root trees: have no soil at the roots
- Trees with root ball: have been dug up, soil adheres to the roots and the ball is often wrapped with linen or wire netting
- Trees in containers: Plants grew in pots from the start
You can basically plant container goods all year round, as these trees take root easily and continue to grow. Trees with a root ball, on the other hand, are ideally planted in early autumn (between the end of August and the end of September) so that they can take root in time for winter. Bare root crops, on the other hand, are planted between October and April.
tree type
In addition to the root type, the tree type also decides when it is best planted. Deciduous trees are always planted at the time of leaf fall in autumn so that they can invest their energies in developing new roots. In spring, on the other hand, such a tree needs too much energy to sprout new leaves. Depending on the root type, you can plant evergreen shrubs all year round.
tips
In addition to the right season, you should also keep to the recommended planting distances. This also refers to the legally regulated distances to the property line.
