A climbing frame should always be anchored well in the ground, even if it is a relatively small scaffold. After all, it shouldn't tip over when your children are doing gymnastics on it. Concreting, on the other hand, is not always necessary.

When should I set a climbing frame in concrete?

If you are planning to build a relatively large climbing frame or even a climbing tower, then it makes sense to concrete it in. The same applies if you have planned a combination of jungle gym and swing. The larger the planned construction project, the more support it needs when playing, climbing and romping later.

For example, ground sockets that are simply driven in can loosen under heavy use, especially if the ground is not particularly firm. Putting them back on is not that easy. It is therefore better to think about the stress during the planning phase. If in doubt, you should always opt for concreting, then your self-made climbing frame will be permanently fixed and safe.

How do I concrete a climbing scaffold?

In contrast to a swing frame, which you can move relatively easily after assembly, when building a climbing frame you have to determine the correct placement of the anchorage by pure measurement. It is essential that you measure carefully and precisely so that the scaffolding fits exactly into the concreted-in ground socket.

Dig a hole about 50 to 60 cm deep for each ground socket, which you then fill with concrete. Possibly put a layer of gravel under the concrete for drainage. Put the ground sockets into the not yet completely dry concrete.

Don't forget to measure the correct fit of the ground sockets again. Make sure that the sleeve is of the same height, otherwise the scaffolding will end up crooked. Only when the concrete has dried can you continue with the construction of the climbing frame.
