- Stage modern flair - this is how it works with lawn, gravel and perennials
- Design the front yard with a flower lawn - blooming romance instead of austere greenery
The representative front garden with lawn does not belong on the design sidetrack. Where a velvety green carpet spreads out, it gives the appearance an elegant flair and a welcome haven of peace. Get inspired here on how to creatively embed a lawn in the front yard design.
Lawn and flowers are a beautiful combination for the front yardStage modern flair - this is how it works with lawn, gravel and perennials
The modern front garden design deliberately avoids flourishes and floral klimbim. Geometric shapes, clear lines and white-green color nuances dominate here. A lush green lawn comes in handy as a supporting design component. The following composition of lawn, gravel and perennials wants to inspire your imagination:
- A geometric lawn marks the center
- A small tree, such as the 'Nana' ball trumpet tree (Catalpa bignoides) or a boxwood sculpture, acts as the main plant
- The green area is framed with ornamental grasses, mulched with white, gray or beige gravel
A path made of natural stone slabs ensures easy access to the front door. The entrance area is flanked by two white ball hydrangeas 'Annabelle' (Hydrangea arborescens). Modern lights with white light guide your visitors safely to the house in the dark. A bench made of gabions or a stainless steel water feature spread contemporary flair around the lawn.
Design the front yard with a flower lawn - blooming romance instead of austere greenery
The front yard design of country and half-timbered houses is turning away from the uniform ornamental lawn towards a natural flower lawn. Special seed mixtures allow a successful compromise to thrive between boring uniform green and knee-high flower meadows. The masterpiece is achieved by combining slow-growing grass varieties with small, hardy flowers. We have compiled recommended mixtures for all layers for you here:
- Mondoflor flower lawn with meadow panicles, daisies and cowslips for all locations without waterlogging
- Japanese flower lawn with historical cottage garden flowers, less hardwearing, but blooming luxuriantly
- Herb lawn by Rieger-Hofmann with 20 wild flowers and herbs and a mowing requirement of 4 times per season
The Umbraflor flower lawn is perfect for a north-facing front garden. Seeds include 15 species of wildflowers that combine to create a gorgeous blooming lawn. In July and September the green is mowed with a scythe.
tips
Do you have a soft spot for level green spaces without having to regularly line up for complex maintenance work? Then swap out the lawn for an evergreen groundcover. Star moss (Sagina subulata), which forms a fluffy green and hard-wearing lawn replacement, is very popular.
