The moderately easy to care for Alocasia (arrow leaf) is grown as a houseplant not for its flowers, but for the interestingly shaped, multicolored leaves. The flowers are rather unspectacular in most varieties and should therefore be cut immediately.

The flowering of the Alocasia is not very attractive in most varieties

Immediately cut off the blossom of the Alocasia

From the flower it is easy to see that the Alocasia belongs to the arum family. It consists of a sepal from which the cob grows out. In most varieties, the sepal is light green in color while the spadix is yellowish in color.

In contrast to the usually very colorful and eye-catching leaves, the flower is rather inconspicuous. It is therefore usually cut off immediately.

tips

You should always cut off the inflorescences of the Alocasia straight away. They rob the plant of unnecessary strength. In addition, the berries that develop from the pollinating flowers are highly poisonous. Always wear gloves when cutting to prevent the milky sap from getting on your skin.
