The normal garden lover rarely sees the pillar cactus in bloom. In room culture, the columnar cactus almost never blooms. However, once you get them to flower, you can only enjoy the beautiful sight at night.

The cereus blooms at night

Cereus cactus only blooms at night

Depending on the variety, the columnar cactus develops beautiful, often very large flowers that even smell under ideal location and care conditions. Unfortunately, the optimal conditions can only rarely be achieved indoors, so that flowering almost always does not occur.

But once the pillar cactus blooms, you have to lie in wait at night to enjoy the beauty of the bloom.

It only opens at night and closes again at first light.

tips

Like almost all types of cactus, the columnar cactus is not hardy. It should never be cooler than five degrees at the location. In winter, Cereus needs a rest period if it is to develop flowers.
