How often should I repot my coffee plant?
If you have grown your own coffee plants from seeds, place young plants individually in pots as soon as they are about ten centimeters tall. If you only put one seed in the pot when sowing, you will save yourself the trouble of repotting.
During growth, you should place your coffee plant in a new, larger container about every two to three years. In principle, old plants that hardly grow in size no longer need to be repotted. Here it is sufficient if you exchange the top layer for fresh soil once a year. This will give your coffee plant fresh nutrients again.
When is the best time to repot my coffee plant?
Ideally, you should repot your coffee plant in spring, which is the best time for you. If the plant pot is already too small when you buy the plant, then you should put the Coffea arabica in a new and slightly larger pot immediately. This is especially true when the roots are already growing out of the container. By the way, a freshly repotted plant does not need any fertilizer for a few months.
If repotting is necessary because the soil is too wet, for example because your coffee plant is already developing brown leaves, then you should of course not wait until spring but react immediately. When repotting, remove any rotten root parts and place the plant in fresh soil and water sparingly for the time being.
