Normally, both the leaves and the flowers of the single-leaf stand upright in the air. However, if the popular houseplant lets its foliage hang down, it is either suffering from a lack of water or has literally been drowned - the otherwise moisture-loving plant does not like waterlogging either.

Too much or too little water is often the reason for drooping leaves

Single sheet is too dry

Be honest: are you one of those people who often forget to water their indoor plants? Some houseplants take this kind of treatment quite amiss, but not so the robust one-leaf. Although the plant, which originates from the tropical South American rainforest, loves moisture and needs both a constantly moist substrate and high humidity, it will easily forgive you occasional dry periods - provided, of course, that they do not last too long. If the single leaf droops due to lack of water, you can counteract this with these measures:

  • Place the pot with the plant in the shower and give it a good shower.
  • Repot the single leaf and place the root ball in a bucket of water for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Pour the single leaf penetratingly.

Of course, you shouldn't do everything at once. Instead, opt for a variation and you'll see the leaves straighten up again in no time.

Einblatt suffers from waterlogging (and possibly root rot)

In addition to too little water, the opposite can also be the cause of the hanging leaves: too much water, so-called waterlogging, leads to root rot and thus to the plant dying of thirst despite an oversupply of moisture. The rotting roots are no longer able to absorb water and conduct it to the upper parts of the plant. For this reason, always make sure that the substrate is slightly damp, but never really wet. There should also be no standing water in saucers or planters, so always throw away the remains after watering. In the event of overwatering, you can do the following:

  • Pot out the single leaf.
  • Remove the wet substrate.
  • Take a close look at the roots: are they still intact or already rotten?
  • Carefully cut away rotten spots.
  • Accordingly, you must also prune the plant above ground.
  • Withered leaves and shoots are also removed.
  • Now plant the single leaf in fresh substrate and in a new pot.
  • Water it moderately.

tips

In winter, the single leaf needs to be watered significantly less than in the summer months. It also makes sense to lower the room temperature by a few degrees.
