- Poinsettias come from the tropics
- Never put poinsettia too cold
- Keep indoors not too sunny
- Overwinter poinsettias properly
Poinsettias are native to regions where it does not freeze. They do not tolerate frost at all and are therefore kept as a houseplant all year round. In summer, however, they definitely appreciate being on the balcony. You only have to protect the plant from frost.

Poinsettias come from the tropics
The origin of the poinsettia are tropical deciduous forests in Mexico, Central and South America. It hardly ever freezes there. The decorative plant with its striking bracts does not tolerate frost at all.
Never put poinsettia too cold
It's not just Frost itself that causes problems for the poinsettia. Even temperatures below five degrees damage the plant. It tolerates warm temperatures all year round and can therefore remain in the room.
Temperatures between 20 and 22 degrees are ideal. Note that the soil dries out faster in high temperatures and you will have to water the poinsettia a little more often.
If you want to make the poinsettia bloom again, you have to darken it for a while after the flowering period, water it little and fertilize it.
Keep indoors not too sunny
Even if the poinsettia can cope quite well with higher temperatures, do not place it in a window that is too sunny. If necessary, shade the plant during midday so that the leaves do not burn.
Overwinter poinsettias properly
Overwinter you need a poinsettia in the house. However, since it shows its pretty leaves during the winter, it is grown indoors anyway during this time.
Poinsettias, on the other hand, have to be oversummered. In summer you are welcome to bring the plant outside as long as the temperature there does not fall below five degrees. Place them in a warm, bright place on the balcony or terrace where it is not too drafty.
The poinsettia is only allowed outside when there is no longer any frost at night. Sometimes, even in May, it's still too cold to take care of poinsettias outside.
tips
In addition to being too wet, the poinsettia also suffers from draughts. Water sparingly and always set it up so that it does not get drafts.
