The lushly blooming Dipladenia is not only a colorful eye-catcher on the sunny balcony or the wind-protected terrace. It can also be cultivated as a houseplant. Then you should prefer a rather compact growing variety.

The Dipladenia needs a lot of light, especially in the home

How do I care for the Dipladenia indoors?

Whether you plant your Dipladenia indoors or outdoors, they always like it warm and light. This applies to the original Mandevilla varieties as well as to the Sundaville bred from them. A place on the warm windowsill is appropriate, but the midday sun should not shine there unprotected for a long time.

At temperatures below around 20°C, the Mandevilla may not flower, or at least less than expected. So the bedroom is not a suitable location. Do not water your Dipladenia too much, it only needs a little water, but should not be left completely dry. She also doesn't like waterlogging. The Mandevilla, on the other hand, needs fertilizer regularly during the flowering period.

Does the Dipladenia need special winter care?

Give your Dipladenia a hibernation otherwise it won't flower next year. To do this, place the plant a little cooler, in a room with about 8 °C to 15 °C. Do without fertilizer and water the plant a little less than in the summer months.

You may cut back your Dipladenia a little before moving to the winter quarters, but you can still do that in the spring. But don't cut too late, otherwise flowering will be delayed.

The essentials in brief:

  • bright warm location without drafts
  • keep cooler in winter (hibernation)
  • Water moderately in summer and little in winter
  • fertilize only during flowering, possibly start shortly before

tips

With the Dipladenia you get a very attractive and long-flowering plant in your living room. However, it needs a hibernation in order to bloom again and again profusely.
