- Use Vinca major as ground cover
- The correct planting distance for a carpet of plants made from Vinca minor
The evergreen species Vinca major and Vinca major differ not only in factors such as growth height and the size of the leaves, but also in terms of their respective frost resistance. On the other hand, the recommendations for planting distances are similar for young plants of about the same size.

The periwinkle can also be used as a ground cover in locations with a milder climate. Note, however, that this type of plant grows much taller and can also tend to climb. Between 5 and 12 plants per m2 can be planted depending on the budget, plant size and time horizon for creating a closed plant cover.

The following factors also determine the exact number of pieces per m2 for the small periwinkle Vinca minor:
- Availability of young plants
- how quickly a closed covering of the ground is desired
- nature of the plant material
In principle, a green carpet of periwinkle can be completely closed more quickly if more plants are planted per m2. Between 5 to 8 and 8 to 12 young plants per m2 there is room for personal decisions. In general, plants should be planted relatively evenly spaced about 10 to 12 inches (25 to 30 cm) into the ground.
tips
If you keep the spaces in between free of weeds, you can also plant the periwinkle less densely at first and later cultivate offshoots yourself or wait for the plants to spread naturally.
