It's so devastating when a knight star doesn't give us a bloom. If instead only the long leaves sprout, you do not have to accept this shortcoming idly. A detailed analysis brings the cause to light, which can be eliminated with the help of adequate measures. Here we explain how it works.

Lack of light results in leaf growth
One of the most common reasons for the lack of flowering while the long leaves are sprouting is a location that is too dark. The knight star acts consistently according to the motto: no sun - no blossom. Therefore, take a close look at the lighting conditions in order to relocate the amaryllis to a bright place that is not in full sun.
Pruning the leaves will not bring out a flower
You will not solve the problem if you cut off the leaves. On a knight's star, the foliage is responsible for the formation of buds inside the bulb. If you cut off the green leaves, all hopes of flowering will be in vain.
Excess moisture will prevent the amaryllis from blooming
Immigrated from the warm, drier regions of South America, the knight star is designed for a water balance at a low level. If the onion is in a substrate that is permanently too moist, only the leaves will sprout and the flowering period will be cancelled. How to water an amaryllis in a balanced way:
- After planting, do not water or water only in sips
- While the buds are sprouting, slightly increase the amount of water
- Water regularly and more abundantly during the summer growth phase
From July, reduce the amount of water in order to cultivate the knight star completely dry from August to November. Only cut off the leaves when they are completely withered. In mid-November, repot the bulb and care for it according to these recommendations.
Animate leafy knight star to flower
If a flower has still not developed at the end of the regular flowering period, please don't throw in the towel. Water and fertilize the knight star consistently. In mid-May, put the leafy plant and its pot in the ground in a sunny, warm spot. If the amaryllis feels good, the inflorescence stem with buds will now sprout.
tips
Warm temperatures cause a knight's star to wilt more quickly in a vase. If you place the cut flowers in a bright place with an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, the brilliant spectacle of flowers will last for 2 weeks or longer.
