Harvesting and sowing seeds - How to do it right
If you brush a brush gently through an open flower, the pollen will be transferred to the pistil. The fruits thrive within 6 to 8 weeks, bulging with valuable seeds. Since the seeds are not thrown out, they are easy to harvest. Sowing is uncomplicated by hand:
- Fill a seed tray or small pots with coconut fibers or seed soil
- Place the light-germinating seeds on the substrate, press down and sieve a maximum of 0.5 cm
- Moisten carefully with a fine spray of soft, lukewarm water
Germination starts within 2 to 3 weeks on a warm, partially shaded window seat. A knight's star propagated from seed takes up to 4 years to flower for the first time.

If you have your sights set on a quick result from the offspring, the offshoots of an amaryllis come into focus. A vital mother bulb gives you small daughter bulbs, from which you can grow a magnificent knight's star yourself within one season. How to proceed:
- Cut off the onions with a minimum diameter of 3 cm from the mother onion
- Fill a 14cm pot with a mix of cactus and potting soil over a drainage of expanded clay beads
- Plant half of each daughter onion, press down the substrate well and water from below
In the partially shaded, warm window seat, only water enough to keep the soil from drying out. Please only administer the first dose of diluted liquid fertilizer when the first leaves sprout. Under ideal conditions, you can already look forward to the first blossoms on your Ritterstern in the following winter.

Plant several flowering amaryllis bulbs in a pot for a stunning mid-winter flowering performance. As long as the onion skins don't touch each other, the plants won't bother each other.
