In the pot, the winter-blooming amaryllis drives away the sadness of the dark season with huge flower cups. For this floral masterpiece, the Ritterstern expects a horticultural all-round feel-good program. You can find out here which care you need to meet the floral requirements.

Repeated relocation in line with the growing cycle
In the course of its vegetation cycle, an amaryllis in a pot changes location several times in order to meet the alternating cultural requirements. The move is on the program a total of three times:
- At the flowering time in a bright window seat that is not in full sun at 18 to 22 degrees Celsius
- In the growing season from May to August in a sunny spot on the balcony
- At rest from September to November in a dark place at temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius
The southern window is only recommended for a Ritterstern if shading reduces the blazing sun. The same applies to the west window, especially on higher floors. Nevertheless, a sufficient amount of light must be available for photosynthesis to take place in full.
Water and fertilize in a balanced way - this is how it works
In the pot, a knight's star achieves its optimum when its water and nutrient balance is adjusted to the changing requirements. The following brief overview shows what really matters:
- Always water from below by pouring lukewarm water into the saucer
- Water carefully so that the soil inside the pot is slightly moist and the surface is dry
- Fertilize liquid every 14 days during the growth period
From August, a knight's star is no longer poured and fertilized. This period of dormancy ends in November when you repot the bulb.
A professional cut rounds off the care
The third mainstay in the cultivation program for a knight star in a pot is prudent pruning. Again, proceed in stages. Please cut off the withered flowers in a timely manner, followed by the hollow stem as soon as it has yellowed. The tuft of leaves remains standing until the autumn dormant phase. The scissors are only used when the leaves have completely died.
tips
When an amaryllis bulb gets old, it gets a makeover. To do this, simply pull off the old shells with blunt tweezers to below the surface of the substrate.
