A lavish tulip bloom is always the result of a well thought out planting and care program. One of the main pillars is the choice of the optimal location. Read here what Tulipa really value.

Tulips love sun and warmth

light and temperature conditions

Tulips show their most beautiful side in a sunny, warm location. In addition, the spring flowers have no objection to a semi-shady location in the shelter of the canopy of mighty deciduous trees. Long-stemmed noble varieties also prefer a wind-protected location so that the slender flower stalks do not bend. You can expect the robust wild species and dwarf varieties with their stable stems to have a wind-exposed location without hesitation.

The ideal soil condition

When choosing a location, keep in mind the biggest enemy of tulip bulbs. We're talking about permanent wetness that kills every onion flower. Therefore, choose a soil with these attributes:

  • Fresh to moderately dry soil
  • Humos, loose and well drained
  • Gladly sandy-loamy

For tulips in balcony boxes, we therefore recommend enriching the potting soil with sand, perlite (€37.51) or lava granules.(€13.99)
