The lantana (Lantana camara), which comes from Central America, is a very popular container plant in our latitudes, which blooms profusely from June to October. Since the small umbels of flowers change color, they impress like no other plant with their fascinating play of colors. Adequate fertilization based on the growth cycle of the Lantana is essential for good growth and abundance of flowers.

Fertilization after hibernation
As soon as the lantana has been taken out of its winter quarters, it is important to provide it with nutrients. If you repot the small shrub, the fresh substrate will contain enough minerals and trace elements for the first few weeks. You can still mix in some slow-release fertilizer such as horn shavings (€32.93) or compost. In contrast to other fertilizers, there is hardly any danger of overdosing.
Plants that remain in their planter for another year are supplied with a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants every four weeks until flowering. Alternatively, you can use fertilizer sticks (€4.48) according to the instructions on the packaging.
Fertilize during flowering
As soon as the lantana opens the first buds, you can fertilize more frequently. The plant now needs nutrients in the dosage indicated on the packaging about every two weeks. Please do not overdose, because this harms the Lantana more than it is useful.
The hibernation
From the end of August or the beginning of September, fertilizers are not applied as often. Depending on when and how you overwinter the lantana, fertilization is completely stopped by October. This ensures that Lantana gently slides into hibernation.
tips
The right location is important for flowering. Only when the plant is bathed in sunlight but protected from rain will it set innumerable buds as desired.
