The dandelion likes to cover entire areas with its bright sunny yellow flower color. Who doesn't know them, these flowers, which are sometimes also referred to as buttercups or cow flowers? But when do they appear?

Flowering period: April to June and thereafter
The main flowering of the dandelion starts at the beginning of April. The individual flowers are present for several days - closing at night, rain and drought - before fading. The flowering period lasts until the end of June/beginning of July. A rebloom often occurs in late summer.
A few flowers can then appear until autumn. The perfect harvest time for the dandelion (blossoms e.g. for salads, syrup) has come both before and during the flowering period.
This is what the flowers look like!
Here are the characteristics of dandelion flowers that will help you recognize them well:
- one flower per plant
- 3 to 5 cm wide
- Flower heads above the stems
- plate-shaped inflorescence
- 200 to 300 ray florets per flower head
- Ray florets stand on the base of the petals
- consist of 5 petals, a style and 5 anthers
- green bracts
Caution: After that, the seeds will spread!
The dandelion is less of a threat when it is in bloom. But after the flowering period, it's time to be careful! As soon as you touch the seed heads lightly, the seeds fly away and ensure propagation. If you have a garden and want to remove the dandelions, you should do it before or during flowering!
tips
The early flowering period and the high content of nectar and pollen make the flowers of the dandelion particularly valuable for the bee world and therefore for beekeepers.
