When bees see the color pink, you know there's still something up for grabs. If, on the other hand, they see the color blue, they usually evaporate quickly from the location of the lungwort. What is it all about and when exactly is the heyday of lungwort?

Lungwort is one of the early bloomers

One of the first early bloomers

Lungwort blooms immediately after planting in spring. It is one of the first perennials to bloom in spring. Thus, it is considered valuable bee pasture. The flowering period begins between March and April and lasts until May.

The easy-care lungwort has funnel-shaped flowers that are arranged in racemes. This is what makes them so special:

  • Color change during flowering due to changes in cell sap pH
  • first pink (rich in nectar)
  • then violet
  • finally blue (without nectar or already pollinated)

tips

The ideal time for collecting lungwort is when it is in bloom.
