A red beech hedge is comparatively cheap in the trade. The price depends on how many trees you buy, what size they are and how they are delivered. This is how you calculate the price you have to pay for a red beech hedge.

How to calculate the price of the red beech hedge
Several factors play a role in the calculation:
- size of the plants
- Bare root trees or baled goods
- number of red beeches
- Length of the beech hedge
- mail order or gardening
Size of plants and delivery
The larger the beech trees are, the more expensive they are. It is very inexpensive if you buy bare-root trees. Beech trees that are delivered in bales are slightly more expensive. Bare-rooted beech trees must be watered for several hours beforehand. They are generally planted in the fall. It is also better to plant balled plants in the fall, as you don't have to water them as often then.
If you buy beech trees for a container hedge, you have to put a lot of money on the table. On the other hand, the trees grow faster and can be planted almost all year round.
How many red beeches do you need?
For a hedge length of one meter you have to buy two copper beeches. For 25 meters of beech hedge you need 50 plants.
If you are in a hurry and want a dense hedge quickly, you can plant three to four copper beeches per meter. This doubles the price of the red beech hedge.
However, you have to cut out the excess trees after a few years so that they do not compete with each other for light and nutrients.
Red beeches are cheaper by mail order
If you order a red beech hedge by mail order, you can get away relatively cheaply. You have to pay around 60 euros for 50 plants (as of August 2016).
In the local specialist nursery, beech trees are considerably more expensive. However, you will get good advice and the nurseries usually offer a growth guarantee. If some red beeches do not grow, you will receive a replacement or a refund.
tips
If you have the time and patience, you can also propagate red beeches using beechnuts or cuttings. However, it takes at least two years before you can put the first small plants in the desired location.
