The cost of a beech hedge depends on various aspects. It can be worth comparing prices. However, a price saving does not always turn out to be really cheap. If the quality is poor, many beeches will not grow.

The smaller the plants, the cheaper

What is the cost of a beech hedge?

In order to draw a beech hedge, you need a correspondingly large number of beeches. How many are needed depends on the desired height. As a rule of thumb, you need to buy two to a maximum of four beeches per meter of hedge length.

If the beech hedge is to be high and dense as quickly as possible, the costs are higher. You then need more plants because you have to plant the beeches at a smaller planting distance.

The following points play a role in calculating the cost of a beech hedge:

  • height of the plants
  • Bare root trees or container plants
  • amount of plants
  • Purchase at a specialty store
  • Order via the Internet

If you need it fast: buy container plants

If you want to have a high, dense beech hedge as quickly as possible, you should use container plants. Although these are significantly more expensive, they grow faster because you can plant them in the ground together with the root ball.

Bare root plants come without soil and are a lot cheaper. However, they need longer to get used to the new location.

Where do you buy beech for a beech hedge?

You can get good books online, which are also quite cheap. For 50 plants with a height of between 40 and 60 centimeters, you currently have to reckon with costs of around 60.00 euros (as of summer 2016).

Unfortunately, it often turns out that the saplings suffer from transport. The losses are higher than with beeches that you buy in a specialist nursery.

In the specialist nursery, the trees cost almost twice as much. You almost always get a growth guarantee for this. If trees don't grow, you get them replaced or at least reimbursed for the costs. In addition, you will be given detailed advice in specialist shops on request.

tips

It is even cheaper if you pull the beech trees for the beech hedge yourself. All you have to do is propagate existing beeches from cuttings. However, it takes a little longer until you have a high, dense beech hedge in this way.
