The correct planting distance for the beech hedge ensures that all trees receive enough light and nutrients. How high it has to be when planting depends on the size of the trees. It also plays a role how quickly the hedge should be high and dense.

Young, small beeches can be planted a little closer together, but then every second one has to be removed later

The right planting distance for beech hedges

For a mature beech hedge, the ideal planting distance is 50 centimetres.

If the trees are very small, it will take a long time for the hedge to grow tall and dense. Under these circumstances you can also plant the beeches more densely so that three to four trees grow per meter.

However, you must remove at least every second beech tree from the mature hedge so that the other trees have enough space.

tips

If you want to create a wide hedge quickly, plant the beeches in a zigzag. The planting distance of 50 centimeters to each neighboring plant must be maintained.
