Marguerites love sunny locations, are undemanding and show pretty cup-shaped flowers. But you will realize that daisies are not just daisies when you read the following article!

In addition to the typical white daisy species, there are also pink varieties

More than 40 species - properties they all have in common

There are more than 40 species, most of which are native to European regions. They all belong to the daisy family of plants. Naturally, they possess flowers composed of white ray florets and yellow tubular florets. Only some cultivars can also have different colored ray florets. Another feature common to all species is that they all have stalked basal and stem leaves.

Daisies, popular as garden plants

Are you looking for a suitable type of daisy to freshen up your garden? The following species are considered popular and have proven themselves over the years among gardeners of Central Europe:

  • Mountain Marguerite
  • Black Border Marguerite
  • Steiner Alps Marguerite
  • Robinson Pink Marguerite
  • mixed-leaved marguerite
  • Hall Marguerite
  • shrub daisies
  • Fat Meadow Marguerite
  • Meadow daisy

The fat and the lean meadow daisy

These two types of daisies are probably the most common in wild meadows in this country. The rough meadow daisy is branched and has several flower heads per stem. It loves nutrient-rich soil and prefers to grow in meadows, fields and pastures. It is also known as the meadow wildflower.

In contrast to this is the fat meadow marguerite, which is also native to Europe. It has unbranched stems and comparatively large flower heads. Its flowering period begins in May and lasts until October. Its growth height is between 50 and 100 cm and its foliage is dense.

The shrub daisy

A rather unusual specimen of a daisy is the shrub daisy. Unlike the other species, which are short-lived and herbaceous in growth, this species is long-lived and evergreen. Their growth is very different from that of other species.

The shrub daisy is even available as a standard with a height of up to 150 cm. The shrub daisy is suitable for both pot and outdoor cultivation. Its flowering time is from May to October.

tips

Not all daisies are sufficiently hardy. Before you buy, think about whether you could overwinter a frost-sensitive daisy!
