When do you repot the Strelitzia?

As a rule, it is necessary to repot a Strelitzia every 3 years. The plant should be spared frequent repotting. Older specimens can also be repotted less frequently, as they no longer grow as quickly. The best time has come in spring after wintering or in summer after flowering.

Warning: the roots are extremely fragile!

One should not proceed in a radical and coarse manner here. The root system of the Strelizie is considered to be extremely sensitive. The fleshy roots break easily. If they are injured, the flowers may not appear.

Remove from the pot and shake off the old soil

First, the plant is carefully removed from the old pot with the root ball. You shake off the old earth. Now would be a good time to divide the perennial if you want to propagate.

Find the right substrate or mix it yourself

If a high bucket is ready, it can be filled with soil. But which soil is suitable? You can use conventional potting soil or potting soil. Alternatively, you can mix the substrate yourself, for example from compost, sand or fine-grained lava and coconut. It is important that it is permeable and has a pH below 7.

What is to be considered afterwards?

Do not fertilize the plant after repotting. However, watering is crucial in the subsequent period so that the Strelitzia can grow. It should not be cut, as this puts additional stress on it.
