- Cutting at the expense of flowers and fruits
- Avoid aging - thin out in summer
- Cut in autumn or spring
- Cut is not necessary
- Cut to get cuttings to propagate
Its toxicity becomes seemingly insignificant in view of its beautiful leaves, flowers and fruits. The love pearl bush can become a visual highlight. Does cutting play a decisive role in this?

Cutting at the expense of flowers and fruits
Anyone who reaches for the scissors on the love pearl bush must be aware of one consequence: when you cut them, the beginnings of the flowers are removed for the coming season. The result is less ornamental berries. The reason for this is that this shrub flowers and bears fruit on two-year-old wood.
Avoid aging - thin out in summer
A thinning cut can be tackled at any time on a frost-free day. But the best time to do so is summer. Then you can see which branches have few flowers. You should cut these away. Remove such branches to the ground. New shoots will soon follow from below.
Cut in autumn or spring
Ideally, the beauty fruit should be cut back a little immediately after flowering. Alternatively, it can be given a pruning in the fall or spring. Parts of the plant that have frozen in winter (not uncommon) are removed in spring.
Cut is not necessary
Since the easy-care love pearl bush has a magnificent growth habit by nature, it does not necessarily need pruning. However, a cut may still be appropriate for a variety of reasons.
Here are possible reasons:
- grown too dense
- too many old shoots
- crossing shoots
- afflicted by disease
- become too big or wide
- too many flowering branches
- Gain branches for the vase
- bare from below
Cut to get cuttings to propagate
Also in the course of propagation, the handle to the scissors can be suitable. The love pearl bush can be propagated with cuttings:
- select long, healthy shoots (annual)
- 10 to 15 cm long
- below there should be a pair of buds
- stick deep in potting soil so that 1 to 2 cm sticks out at the top
- keep moist
- protect from frost in the first winter
tips
Don't worry if a radical pruning is unavoidable: the beauty fruit will sprout again even after such a rigorous pruning. However, it took several years before it regained its shape.
