Initially inconspicuous, it produces pink flowers in midsummer and violet drupes in autumn, which remain ornamental through the winter. The orange-yellow autumn leaves are not to be scoffed at either. The love pearl bush can be cultivated not only outdoors, but also in a bucket!

The love pearl bush also needs enough space in the bucket

Where is there room for this large specimen?

The love pearl bush grows between 2 and 3 m high and up to 2 m wide. With these dimensions, a generous location should be offered to him. The location should be sunny to semi-shady and sheltered from the wind.

Places on the balcony or the terrace on the wall of the house, for example, are ideal. There are also suitable locations in front of house entrances. But be careful: this plant is not made for growing indoors. There is not enough light there.

The right substrate is needed!

Before you plant the love pearl bush in the bucket, the right substrate should be ready. It should have the following characteristics:

  • large proportion of peat
  • small proportion of gravel or expanded clay
  • like to add some compost, rock flour or horn shavings (32.93€).
  • A pH between 5.5 and 6 is optimal
  • low in lime
  • keep moist by regular watering

Fertilizing and cutting - essential?

With a bucket culture, you should supply the love pearl bush with fertilizer 2 to 3 times a year. Complete fertilizer is best for him. In addition to fertilizing, a light annual cut is recommended as care. However, these two procedures are not essential.

Protect from frost in winter!

In winter you should protect your beauty fruit from frost in the bucket. If the plant is to remain outside, the bucket must be wrapped in fleece or another material. It should also be placed on styrofoam or wood so that it does not freeze through from below. After hibernation, you can repot the plant into a larger container (every 2 to 3 years).

tips

Since the berries of the beauty fruit are poisonous and at the same time look tempting to snack on or play with, you should take care that children do not get close and eat them.
