Coriander is an annual plant native to the Mediterranean region. The spice plant cannot survive frosty temperatures. In addition, the summer flowering heralds the end of the short plant life by investing all energy in the growth of the seeds.

Vietnamese coriander is an exception. The tropical knotweed plant is not related to real coriander and has the potential for perennial cultivation. Overwintering in the sheltered ambience of a room or conservatory works like this:

  • allow the plant from temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius
  • hibernate on the sunny, warm windowsill at 18 to 22 degrees Celsius
  • continue to keep slightly moist and fertilize with liquid every 6-8 weeks
  • optionally store in a cool, dark cellar at 5 to 10 degrees Celsius
  • water little and do not fertilize

If you want to continue harvesting the aromatic leaves during the cold season, a warm location is an option. However, a cool winter break is more advantageous so that the herbal plant can gather fresh strength.
