Unfortunately, clivias are not necessarily easy-care plants, which is also reflected in their willingness to bloom. The flowering is already impaired by a frequent change of location or the light source, as well as by a lack of hibernation.

If the clivia doesn't get the hibernation it needs, it won't flower

Conditions for lush flowering

During the winter, clivia need a cool hibernation so that they can then flower. During this period, the clivia is not fertilized and watered very little. Allow the soil to dry slightly before the next watering.

However, keep in mind that a clivia needs a certain age to flower at all, but then it blooms more profusely every year. This takes about five years from sowing. If you grew your Clivia from a Kindel, expect a waiting period of about three years. If a clivia is frequently moved or repotted, it will also become lazy.

Tips for a lush bloom:

  • Clivia only bloom after a few years
  • the older the plant, the more beautiful the flower
  • Difficult to flower without hibernation
  • ideal winter quarters: bright and cool
  • best temperature in winter: between 10 °C and 12 °C
  • if no cool winter quarters are available, then at least water a little
  • frequent change of location makes flowering difficult

Make the clivia flower

If you cannot give your Clivia the hibernation it actually needs for flowering, then all is not lost. Limit the frequency of watering and also the amount of water for some time. This dry season should last about two months.

Place the clivia in a bright place where it is not directly exposed to the sun. Do not change the location or the angle of the plant to the light. The plant pot should also not be turned accidentally, for example when watering or when opening the window. After a few weeks, the first blossoms should appear.

First aid measures for the next bloom:

  • restrict casting
  • bright but not full sun location
  • no change of location if possible

tips

In order for your clivia to flower reliably, you should give it a hibernation and a location that is as constant as possible.
