On the balcony on the north side of the house is the refuge of shadow bells (Pieris japonica). The 'Purity' variety impresses with elegant, overhanging, white flower panicles. From mid-April, all balcony plants that have overwintered in the basement can go outside. Before the Mediterranean and exotic perennials take their place in the sun, they need to acclimate. A sudden change from inside the house to the sunny balcony place inevitably causes leaf damage from sunburn. Only a 14-day stay in the wind-protected semi-shade prevents this dilemma.
