Are you an animal-friendly person and would like to catch and relocate your vole with a live trap? In order for the vole to get trapped, you need good bait. What the vole likes and dislikes and how to make the ideal vole bait yourself is explained below.

What do voles eat?
Voles are strictly herbivores and particularly enjoy nibbling on roots, vegetables and grass. A "regular" ham or cheese mouse bait is not at all attractive to voles. Instead, you should resort to vole food.
Craft Non-Toxic Vole Bait
Root vegetables make excellent vole bait. It's best to place a selection of different treats in the trap so that every vole's taste is catered for, too. Voles also find apples appetizing. It is important that the vegetables are fresh and therefore smell delicious.
Here are a few ideas for the vole bait:
- celery
- apples
- carrots
- potatoes
- Jerusalem Artichoke
Avoid strong-smelling roots such as garlic, onions or herbs!
Equip the vole trap with the bait
When equipping the vole trap you can do a lot wrong. To ensure that the mouse really falls into the trap, you should note the following:
- Never touch the vole trap with your bare hands!
- Before use, clean them with water without detergent!
- Leave her outside (preferably in the rain) for a few days so she loses any human, plastic or chemical smell.
- Load the vole trap with the bait using unscented gloves.
Voles have very sensitive noses and naturally avoid people and their smell.
Poisonous vole bait
If you want to poison the vole, you should access a commercially available vole bait. There are different vole poisons, which we present to you here. The costs are between 15 and 20€.
