In spring, nature conservation organizations can hardly save themselves from young birds that seem to need help. Many nature lovers mean well and want to help the animals. But in most cases such interventions are superfluous.

Young birds should not be touched

Trade with caution

Young birds like tits leave their parents' room very soon and then live in the surrounding bushes and trees. They beg their parents for food. This development process is essential for the survival of the animals. In the nest they are easy prey for magpies or squirrels and the calls of the siblings make this place even more interesting for predators. Individually, the birds can hide better in the thicket.

Please do not record

If you spot a young bird begging excitedly, calmly observe the situation throughout the day. As a rule, after a short time, the parents show up with insects in their beaks, which they feed to the offspring. Birds should only be included in exceptional cases.

When young birds need help:

  • when a predator like the cat lurks in the area
  • in the event of externally visible injuries
  • as long as the animals are not yet fledged and completely naked

Raising a flightless titmouse is not easy. Feeding becomes more difficult the younger the boulder is. There is also a risk that the birds will get used to people too much if they are reared for a long time.

How to help orphaned tits

If a bird is perched in the middle of an open space where it can easily fall prey to predators, perch it on a branch in a nearby tree or shrub. His parents will find him again through his begging calls. If you spot a fledgling chick on the ground, put it back in its nest. Human help is only recommended if the adult birds do not appear after several hours.

feeding

Nest squatters like tits get their food pushed into their beak with blunt tweezers. If the bird does not open it, it is opened by gentle pressure. An unseasoned scrambled egg is good emergency food. After a while crickets, insects, ant pupae and caterpillars are on the menu.
