The Phalaenopsis, also known as the butterfly orchid, originally comes from the tropical rain forests in Southeast Asia. So it's no wonder she loves warmth. Under ideal conditions, it will display its decorative blooms for up to four months.

The Phalaenopsis likes it bright but not sunny

What does a Phalaenopsis need to feel good?

In order for your Phalaenopsis to do really well, you should give it enough water and fertilizer and a light to partially shaded location with high humidity. Be sure to avoid drafts and do not place the butterfly orchid too close to the heater. The air there is far too dry for this tropical plant. Regular spraying with lukewarm water increases the humidity if necessary.

The ideal temperature for butterfly orchids

To thrive, the Phalaenopsis needs a relatively large amount of light and warmth, otherwise there could be no flowering. A difference between day and night temperatures is definitely beneficial, it should be around 4 °C. Temperatures of at least 18 °C to 20 °C are recommended during the day and not below 16 °C at night.

Incidentally, the right location is also crucial for the lifespan of a cut Phalaenopsis in the vase. This also loses its flowers in cold drafts. If the cut flower is warm and bright and is regularly supplied with fresh, warm water, then the decorative flowers of the Phalaenopsis last up to four weeks.

The perfect location:

  • bright to semi-shady
  • no direct sunlight
  • high humidity
  • Day temperatures: 18°C to 20°C
  • Temperatures at night: slightly cooler than during the day, but at least 16 °C
  • neither dry heating air nor draughts

tips

Although the Phalaenopsis likes it bright, it does not tolerate the blazing midday sun well.
