The botanical garden of the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel has been a place of biological teaching since 1669. On an area of around eight hectares, of which around 3,000 square meters are under glass, it offers a fascinating overview of the world's wealth of plants.

The Kiel Botanical Garden is open all year round. With the exception of special events, admission is free.

in your navigation system. You will find the “Bremerskamp” car park near the entrance to Leibnizstraße.

If you prefer public transport, use bus lines 50, 60S or 81 and get off at the final stop "Botanischer Garten".

The Kiel Botanical Garden is located on the new Veloroute 10. If you leave this at the northern end and continue along the Olof-Palme-Damm, you will get directly to the "Entrance towards Westring", where you will find bicycle stands.

The Kiel Botanical Garden invites you to take long walks through the approximately ten-kilometer-long network of paths. Travel through the abundance of plants on earth in just a few steps and discover the diversity of our native moor, forest, dune and heath landscapes in addition to the exotic plants of Asia, Africa and America.

The heat-loving plants of the desert and tropical regions have found their home in greenhouses. Numerous types of ferns, ancient cycads, orange and lemon trees thrive here. In the spacious medicinal garden you can get to know and sniff a wide variety of herbs and their effects.

The plants in the Botanical Gardens in Kiel not only serve to educate students at the affiliated university, they are also the subject of a wide range of scientific studies. Located in the far north, the Alpinum of the Botanical Gardens in Kiel is home to over 2,500 types of mountain plants. In addition to alpine plants, these are plants native to the Himalayas, the Caucasus, South Africa and New Zealand.
