Even if you make your garden easy to maintain, you will hardly be spared the occasional weeding. If bending down is difficult, you still don't have to resort to the chemical club to keep weeds in check. With suitable equipment, weeds can be removed while standing and the work is much easier to do by hand.

Weed - what is it?
Every plant is an important part of our ecosystem and therefore has a right to exist. This plant only becomes a weed when it spreads somewhere where ornamental or useful plants are to be grown.
Most weeds are quite tough. Even the little substrate in the gaps between the pavement slabs is enough for the survival artists to settle successfully. Unfortunately, this unwanted growth is not visually appealing and must be removed regularly. This can also be done, provided you use the right tool, without bending over.
Pulling weeds while standing
Plucking weeds while kneeling is not one of the favorite pastimes of many hobby gardeners, especially since this activity can cause severe back pain. The following tools are essential for mechanical weeding:
- Hoe,
- cultivator
- pendulum hoe.
When buying the device, make sure that the handle is sufficiently long so that you can work with a straight posture. High quality pays off here, because sharp cutting edges and edges make work easier.
If you have to clear large areas of weeds, electric or gas-powered weeders provide noticeable relief.
Choosing the right time
To make weeding as easy as possible, you should:
- Getting to work after a downpour. Weeds are easier to remove from the soft soil. If there is no rain in sight, you can moisten the soil with the garden hose.
- Do not throw away lawn clippings, but use them as a protective mulch layer. Light-hungry weeds cannot even sprout in this way. Alternatively, you can apply wood chips or mulch films.
- Reach for ergonomic devices, which you can now find in a large selection in specialist garden shops.
Remove weeds from the cracks in the paving stones
There are also joint scrapers with a long handle. Make sure that the tool has a V-shaped blade, as this makes cleaning noticeably easier. Electric or gas-powered flaming devices, which destroy plants growing in the joints with heat, are very helpful. These can then simply be swept away.
tips
There is special joint sand that compacts so much that weed seeds can no longer sprout. Due to the fine grain, Dansand penetrates deep into the cracks in the pavement and completely fills any cavities. Nevertheless, the joints are water-permeable, so that no puddles form even when it rains for a long time. This material will keep your paved areas weed-free for many years.
