Some dogs love to pick up and eat beechnuts while walking through the forest. That can be dangerous. The toxins contained in the fruit lead to dangerous symptoms of poisoning in four-legged friends.

Beechnuts are poisonous when raw
Beechnuts contain three substances that are classified as toxic. These are:
- hydrogen cyanide
- fagin
- oxalic acid
Consuming the raw nuts causes malaise and other symptoms of intoxication.
Signs of beechnut poisoning
- Strong panting
- Tremble
- salivation
- shortness of breath
If these symptoms appear after a walk in the forest in autumn, it cannot be ruled out that the dog has eaten beechnuts.
As a dog owner, you should therefore make sure that you avoid beech forests in autumn or keep your dog on a leash.
tips and tricks
Eating a beechnut will not seriously harm a dog. However, if he has eaten several fruits, you should call the animal ambulance to be on the safe side. If signs of poisoning appear, the animal must be taken to the veterinary emergency room immediately.
