Where the lavender feels comfortable, it grows very quickly. Therefore, you should ensure optimal site conditions and proper care.

Give lavender enough room to grow

Since lavender grows very quickly and, above all, very bushy under the right conditions, you should ensure that the young plants are sufficiently spaced apart. Otherwise it can happen that in a few years you will have to laboriously separate the plants from each other and transplant them. How big the planting distance should be depends on the lavender variety. The lower this grows, the smaller the distance between the individual plants can be. Potted lavender needs the largest possible pot - the bigger the better.

Prune lavender annually

Botanically speaking, lavender belongs to the subshrubs, i. H. over the years, the older shoots become lignified. However, no new shoots grow from this wood and therefore no flowers either. So that you do not have a more or less bare bush within a short time, you should prune the lavender annually - preferably in spring and after flowering. In particular, the topiary in the spring encourages the plant to lush growth of young shoots.

tips and tricks

Do not fertilize lavender too often, because this does not accelerate the growth of new shoots, but only woodification. Planted lavender only needs a little lime from time to time.
