Bringing daylilies through the winter outdoors in the bed, for example with a mulch layer, is usually not a problem. But what about daylilies in pots?

Most varieties are frost hardy
Most daylily varieties are hardy (down to -30 °C). Only a few breeds from the USA could be sensitive to frost in this country. Evergreen varieties in particular are considered to be susceptible to frost.
Bring over the winter undamaged
If your daylily is in a pot, you should overwinter it:
- Cut down leaves in autumn
- place in a protected place
- Wrap the pot with fleece or other material
- Place the pot on a wooden peg
- Soil should not freeze completely
- Soil should not dry out
- release from the protective coat from May and place in the usual location
tips and tricks
Beware of fertilizing the daylilies in late summer or fall. This late application of fertilizer could result in the plants not surviving the first frost.
