In addition to the classic gas-powered weed burners, there are also electric models. With these, annoying green that spreads in the cracks of paving slabs can be easily and sustainably destroyed. In the following article you will learn, among other things, how to use the devices correctly and what you have to consider when removing weeds electrically.

Electric flame weeders are a good help when it comes to selectively removing weeds, e.g. on sidewalks

What is the difference between gas and electric burners?

Flaming devices are relatively inexpensive and therefore widespread. With the gas cartridge on the handle, you remain flexible and can also work in remote corners of large properties. On the other hand, if you need to weed the entire driveway, you're tied to a heavy propane tank.

In contrast to these devices, electric weed burners do not work with an open flame, but with a hot air current of up to 650 degrees generated by a heating coil. All you have to do is hold it over the green for a few seconds. Due to the high heat, the protein coagulates inside the plant cells, these burst and the weeds die. However, the cable length limits the working radius of these very effective helpers.

What should I look for when buying an electric weed burner?

Especially when you have to work on larger areas, it is important that the handle fits comfortably in your hand. The device shouldn't be too heavy, because you mustn't set it down directly on the ground, you have to hold it over the weeds. A stand is usually integrated with which you can put the weed burner down and let it cool down after work.

The application

This is very simple:

  • Connect the electric weed killer directly to a power outlet. To increase the radius, you can use an extension cord.
  • The device is started by pressing a button.
  • Aim the hot airflow at the weeds for a few seconds.
  • To save electricity, don't wait for the green to char. The very short application time is completely sufficient.

The effect only becomes visible a few hours later. The plants will wither and dry up completely within a few days, so they can be easily removed or swept up.

tips

If the areas are very weedy, it may be necessary to repeat the application. This is also the case when numerous weed seeds have accumulated in the joints, which germinate again. Over time, you can noticeably increase the intervals of this very effective method of weed killing.
