Wasps, commonly known as earth wasps, can become a real problem in the garden. Fighting them is not only delicate, but also only allowed in certain cases. Home remedies with which you can take action against the animals only exist in the broadest sense.

Wasps can be attracted with something sugary sweet and thus lured away from somewhere else

Wasps are protected

Before you heat up against so-called ground wasps and try to fight them blindly, you should take a closer look at them. Because, as with so many annoyances, calm arranging often works better than angry confrontation. Of course, in some cases there are good reasons why a ground wasp nest in the garden is not simply acceptable - for example, if you have an allergy to the wasp venom or small children live in your household.

Only such circumstances are considered reasonable reasons by the Nature Conservation Union to take action against the wasps, which are protected in principle. In order not to harm the animals unnecessarily and to avoid a fine, you should clarify the situation with a specialist.

To remember:

  • Wasps are protected
  • May only be fought under certain circumstances
  • Consult experts before control measures

"Home remedies" against ground wasps

Home remedies are usually used to describe substances or foods that are not intended for quick, simple help and that are usually always available in the household. There is basically only one method against wasps in the garden that creates relief in this way. And that's distracting fodder.

A bowl of sugar water, for example, can be used to lure wasps away from areas of the garden where you want to sit or relax in private. So you don't need to harm the animals unnecessarily and still have a little more peace.

What else you can do without resorting to harsh, potentially criminal methods or paying for professional removal is to prevent a wasp's nest from repopulating. To do this, you close the access holes in the fall, when the state dissolves. Normally, however, the hibernating, fertilized female wasps move to other areas to establish their own colony.

Especially against this background, it is worthwhile tolerating the earth wasps for the relatively short duration of their state existence. If the distraction trick with the feeding bowl helps to some extent, you should be comforted that the wasps will be gone again in the autumn.
