If earth wasps have nested in the garden in summer, the question arises as to whether the event will repeat itself in the following year. In order to clarify them, it is of course necessary to know how wasps actually spend the winter. So much can already be said about this: Most people don't spend it at all.

The short wasp life
A wasp's life usually lasts only a short time. The majority of a colony only lives for the preparation and rearing of the sexual animals, which ensure the preservation of the species for the next year. Workers and males die in autumn when they have fulfilled their quota.
Overwintering is only intended for the fertilized females. They remain in caves in a kind of cold rigidity in which they use very little energy. In the spring they set out to found a new state as the new queen.
To do this, however, they usually look for a new quarter in which to build a nest. It is unlikely that a shelter in the ground will be populated again next year, at least not by young queens of the old state.
