Types of fruit that can also be planted freely in the garden are used as trellis fruit. However, their further growth differs significantly. Are there also differences in the planting time? When do the roots of a tree chosen as a trellis come into the ground?

Plant container goods
All espalier fruit varieties are offered all year round as so-called container goods. That means they are delivered with a pot in which the roots are covered with soil. When planting, the complete root ball comes into the ground unchanged, where the roots can spread further.
Container goods can therefore be planted as trellis fruit all year round. It should only be a frost-free day.
Plant bare-root espalier fruit
If you use bare-root trees for planting espalier fruit, the planting time is limited:
- plant from October to March
- on a frost-free day
tips
If possible, also plant container goods from October to March. This is the best time to take root well. Planting in hot summers is stressful for the young tree.
