- distance between two trees
- distance to the scaffold
- Distance between two branches
- Distance to neighboring property
Trellis fruit only grows in two directions and is therefore nice and space-saving. This advantage often tempts people to plant several trees at the same time. Trellis fruit can also lean against walls. Are there certain distances to keep?

distance between two trees
Several fruit trees can be planted in a row to create a living and fruit-bearing hedge, for example. The small trees grow in height, but also in width. Their branches must not cross too early.
- the ideal planting distance depends on the espalier fruit varieties
- it is usually around 2 m
distance to the scaffold
Trellis fruit grows on a supporting framework to which the branches are tied. When planting, the root ball should be about 20 cm away from the trellis.
Distance between two branches
The side branches of the fruit tree are attached horizontally to wires on the trellis. The bottom floor starts at about 60 cm from the ground. The other floors should also follow with a minimum distance of 60 cm.
Distance to neighboring property
For espalier fruit up to 1.8 m high, according to the so-called neighborhood law of most federal states, no distance to the neighbor has to be maintained. Before planting, ask the authority responsible for you about the current regulations.
