The carob tree is native to the Mediterranean region, but it also beautifies your garden as a bonsai. The tree looks even more impressive in the bonsai form. If you keep the plant correspondingly small, it hardly takes up any space, even in narrow gardens or on balconies. There the carob tree impresses with an attractive red color of the leaves.

location
Give your carob bonsai back a piece of home and place it in a full sun location. A terrace is ideal in summer.
Possible design forms
Popular design forms for the carob tree as a bonsai are:

maintenance
pour
Too much moisture damages the carob tree. To avoid waterlogging, you should only water the plant from time to time and always wait until the substrate has dried.
Fertilize
Fertilize your carob tree bonsai every two weeks between March and November with a liquid fertilizer. In the cold season limit the fertilizer application to once a month.
To cut
To preserve bonsai shape, trim new shoots as soon as they appear. This is possible all year round. In addition, you should remove the shoots of the trunk right at the beginning.
wire
The branches of the carob tree become lignified very quickly. Unfortunately, it is therefore only possible to wire young, one-year-old branches into the desired shape.
hibernate
Watering behavior becomes even more relevant during the winter. Under no circumstances should you water your carob tree. Only when the top layer of substrate is completely dry should water be given again. In winter, the tree likes it a little cooler. The temperatures should not climb higher than 15°C.
repot
Unlike other bonsai plants, moderate growth makes the carob tree easier to care for. Young specimens only need to be repotted every two to three years. Later you can extend the interval to four years. Always ensure a well-drained substrate in the new container.
