To prevent the spread of diseases and parasites, you should clean your nest box regularly. Read here when the right time for the cleaning is.

A nest box should be cleaned twice a year

Clean the nest box twice a year

It is best to remove residues and old nests twice a year

  • in early spring
  • in late summer

In the spring

The cleaning must be done before the birds start building their nests. Animals may have hibernated in the nesting box (€49.85) and their remains must now be removed. The work should be completed by March at the latest, as birds are already looking for breeding sites after mild winters due to the rich food supply.

In late summer

Since nest boxes are also often used as winter quarters, you should carry out a second cleaning in late summer or autumn, before the first night frosts appear.
