In addition to the meter-high conifers, the pine also comes in small varieties. The dwarf trees are ideal for keeping in containers on the terrace or on the balcony. The species spectrum of the small specimens is by far not as extensive as that of the large trees. Nevertheless, you have the choice between different types of pine. Learn more about the different, short pine varieties below and choose your favourites.

Small pine species
The dwarf forms of pine are subspecies of mountain pine. They are also known as dwarf pines. The following small pine species are available in nurseries in this country:
- Cone mountain pine
- creeping jaws
- ball jaw
- Winter yellow dwarf mountain pine
The cone mountain pine
The cone mountain pine has a narrow growth. It is only two meters wide and reaches a maximum height of five meters. The cone mountain pine prefers a slightly acidic, dry to moderately moist soil in a sunny to half-shady site. It is hardy and evergreen.
The Creeping Jaws
The creeping pine grows only about 1.5 meters high, as it spreads on the ground by creeping. Its dark green needles are ideal for greening any surface as long as it is exposed to the sun. The plant is considered to be extremely hardy.
The Ball Jaws
The shape also plays the eponymous role in the ball jaw. The dwarf pine impresses with its round, even growth. Her needle dress is particularly dense. The spherical pine remains very small at just 40-60 cm. It makes hardly any demands on the soil. You can plant them in either a sunny or partially shaded spot.
The winter yellow dwarf mountain pine
While numerous plants shed their needles or foliage in winter, the winter yellow dwarf mountain pine provides color in your garden. The otherwise green needles turn golden yellow in autumn. The flowers in June and July are also beautiful to look at. The male flowers are yellow and the female flowers are red. The winter yellow dwarf mountain pine is shallow-rooting and does best in well-drained, humus-rich soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot.
