It is available in white, pink or black. But it always comes with a touch of sharpness. The healthy radish is a pleasure fresh and should therefore not be stored for long. If it has to be, its freshness should be retained as far as possible.

Radish can be stored well in a box in the basement

Radish is in season all year round

Why store when you can buy radish all year round? Unless you're storing your bountiful harvest, there's rarely a good reason to store it for long.

Regionally grown radish tastes great and usually comes fresh from the field. Here it is crucial to always buy the varieties that are in peak season at the time of purchase. Since radishes are represented in many varieties on the market, their own needs are always well covered.

Only use fresh radishes for storage

Radish roots that are no longer of the best quality will certainly not improve with storage. If you want to store radishes longer, then make sure you pay attention to the following characteristics when shopping:

  • smooth, non-shriveled skin
  • no cracked spots
  • fresh and tender looking leaves

Store radishes in the fridge

Only a few steps separate the radish from the shopping bag to the fridge:

  1. Use a vegetable brush to remove coarse dirt particles or residues of soil.
  2. Cut off the greens with kitchen scissors.
  3. Place the radish in the crisper of the refrigerator.

If you consume the radish within a week, you still get a lot of the valuable ingredients on your plate.

tips

If you can store the radish in the fridge just above freezing and in high humidity, it will extend its shelf life to as much as a month.

Store winter radish optimally

Winter radish can be kept for months if you can offer it good storage conditions.

  • store in the basement
  • it should be cool and dark
  • together in a box, covered with sand

As its name suggests, winter radish lasts all winter. During the cold season, as many radishes as are needed can always be "harvested" from the sandbox.

Store radish frozen

Cooked radish pieces can be frozen for three months. Radish shouldn't stay in the freezer for longer, otherwise it will taste bland.
