The easy-care sacking flower does not usually grow old indefinitely, but only about seven to ten years. Therefore, propagation is definitely recommended and not too difficult. Alternatively, you would have to buy a new flower every few years.

How can I propagate the sack flower?
The propagation of the sack flower is possible with different methods. Propagation by sinkers is considered to be very easy. Cutting cuttings is a little more involved. However, you need the most patience for the sowing.
Propagation by sinkers
The easiest method is to propagate your sackcloth by means of sinkers. You don't need potting soil or pots for it. In the spring, look for a shoot from the previous year that is close to the ground and carve it a little on the underside. Bend the shoot so that it rests on the ground with the cut and put a little soil over it.
You may weigh down this spot with a stone so that the shoot does not straighten up again. All you have to do is wait until next spring. Then enough roots should have formed so that you can separate the young plant from the mother plant and transplant it to another place. However, a high-stemmed variety is not suitable for this type of propagation.
Pruning and caring for cuttings
Take cuttings about 15 to 20 centimeters long from the young side shoots from late spring to June. Remove the lower leaves and any flowers that may be present and cut the rest of the leaves in half to reduce evaporation.
Keep your cuttings evenly moist in a pot with potting soil. By autumn they should be well rooted and begin to sprout. However, they are not yet hardy and should only be planted out in spring.
The most important thing about the propagation of the sack flower:
- Propagation possible by sowing, lowering and cuttings
- Lowering: in spring with last year's shoots
- Cuttings: cut new side shoots in June
- Overwinter young plants in the greenhouse
- Sow: in spring, indoors, not of a single variety
tips
If you would like to propagate your sack flowers of a single variety, this can only be done with lowers or with the help of cuttings.
