If the cover of the garden lounger is damaged, there is a risk that it will tear completely and is therefore no longer usable. Since the covering has to meet certain requirements, it is not easy to re-cover the lounger yourself.
The covering of a garden lounger is heavily stressedRecover the garden lounger
The covering of the sun lounger is subjected to the greatest stress. It therefore suffers with prolonged use, becomes brittle and tears.
Minor tears or damage can sometimes be repaired by putting duct tape over the spots. However, this is only a temporary measure that will not last forever.
Try to carefully remove the old covering. You need them to determine the exact dimensions for a new covering. Some retailers will offer to provide a replacement if you send in the broken fabric.
locate manufacturer
If you've bought a branded product, it shouldn't be difficult to locate the manufacturer and ask for help. You will often get good advice and tips on how to re-cover the sun lounger.
If the manufacturer no longer exists or if the product is a no-name product, contact the garden retailer.
If the garden lounger cannot be re-covered, it is time to think about a new purchase. If you are a bit handy, you can even build garden loungers yourself from pallets for 2 people. Then you don't need any covering at all, just thick cushions on which you can lie comfortably.
Make the cover yourself
If you want to re-cover a lounger yourself, you need a hard-wearing fabric that must have the following properties:
- tear resistant
- air permeable
- water repellent
Very strong awning fabric can be suitable, but can only be sewn really well with an industrial sewing machine. Inexpensive, lighter awning fabrics are not advisable, as they wear out very quickly and absorb too much water.
There are special mail order companies that offer outdoor products. Here you could try to order a suitable fabric for the covering.
tips
Check in the spring whether the covering of your lounger is still intact. You should also check whether all the screws are still tight and the hinges are working. You can then work up the lounger with a few resources.
