A raised bed - regardless of whether you built it yourself or with the help of a prefabricated kit - beautifies every garden. Especially if you use such a bed as a privacy screen for the terrace or to divide a large garden into different areas. However, not only the raised bed beautifies the garden, the bed itself can also be made pretty with simple means. There are various possibilities.

The border of a raised bed can be hidden with stones

Dress up the raised bed

A very simple trick to make an unsightly concrete raised bed disappear, for example, is to cover the border of the bed with a different, nicer material. In this case, wood is a good choice, but you don't have to be afraid of premature rotting - the stone border provides effective protection against moisture, so you only have to protect the cladding from rain and external weather influences. Non-toxic weather protection glazes are suitable for this. But not only wooden slats and planks encase a raised bed, other materials are also suitable for hiding places. These include:

  • beautiful stones from which you build a wall in front of the actual bed
  • Perennials, shrubs or shrubs that you plant in front of the raised bed and frame it with it
  • Textile fabrics with which the raised bed can be covered - for example fleece
  • a wrapping of the bed box with flexible, braided willow branches
  • a covering of the raised bed with hazelnut rods

If you decide to transplant the raised bed, think of a narrow path between the bed and the planting - otherwise you will no longer be able to access the raised bed for maintenance and, if necessary, harvesting.

Decorate the raised bed

In addition to simply hiding or disguising the raised bed, there are other ways to beautify it. You can use color or decorate the bed box with a beautiful mosaic pattern.

Paint the raised bed

Raised beds made of wood or stone are particularly suitable for painting or painting. Depending on your mood, you can either paint the whole raised bed in color or simply apply colorful ornaments. However, you should make sure that you use water-resistant and non-toxic paint if possible - otherwise it will quickly get into the bed or the garden soil. For example, paints that are used for painting and varnishing children's toys are very suitable.

Glue the raised bed

Raised stone beds in particular can be creatively embellished by creating pretty patterns made of small mosaic stones and gluing them on with tile adhesive. Matching stones are available in many colours, shapes and sizes in every hardware store. Commercially available tiles can also be used very well for this purpose.

tips

A sunken seat also contributes to the beautification of the raised bed. In the case of raised stone beds, this can be built into the side wall or (in the case of wooden and stone raised beds) attached to the edge.
