Cymbidium orchids need a well-drained, not too nutritious soil. You can use orchid soil from the garden market for this, which you can also loosen a little with bark mulch. You can also mix a good substrate for Cymbidium yourself.

Mix the right soil for Cymbidium yourself
Normal potting soil or garden soil is not suitable for the not very easy-care cymbidiums. It is too nutritious and usually not permeable enough to water.
Mix the substrate for this type of orchid yourself from the following components:
- bark mulch
- peat
- sand
- garden soil
- styrofoam balls
You can also get a good substrate by mixing equal parts sphagnum, compost and coir. This soil is ideal if you want to avoid peat for environmental reasons.
tips
Cymbidium orchids are fast growers. They usually need a new pot every two years. Repot in spring immediately after flowering.
